Mascot?
So, the Chicago Cubs are considering hiring or creating a mascot this season in order to rally team spirit and generate fan support. I know it’s great for the kids, but do the Cubs really need one? Perhaps, but maybe they don’t. This is a harder call to make than one would think.
We have a two year old that loves giant fuzzy creatures parading around stadiums and shaking hands and high-fiving fans. He absolutely adores those things. Then again, he tends to get a bit scared of them too.
I don’t think it’s a big deal.
“What would it be?” second baseman Darwin Barney asked the Tribune. “A Cub? A Bear? I think it could go either way. There’s something fun about having that at the ballpark during the game. Especially with just organ music, there’s not much to keep fans into the games at time.”
Why not? It couldn’t hurt. I don’t think they should make it a goat. In fact, why not get a mascot..

I did read how they planned on making Wrigley Field a bit more ‘kid friendly’ all around. I have no problem with a good mascot, and maybe some pre-game activities, but I’m not sure about ‘rides’ and a playground. My kids want to go to Comerica, but they see the ferris wheel and merry-go-round on TV. There are some nice playgrounds at many minor league parks, but I’m there to watch the game, personally. There are a lot of nice places to play that don’t cost a ticket to get into. I think a macot would be nice, becuase they’re usually fun for all, have kids club packages, and those things don’t take away from the game itself.
